review We have been very lucky to get some fantastic visitors over the years who have left some great information snippets for future visitors. You can read what they have to say about the property, the local area as well as Cyprus as a whole. Just to whet your appetite we have included a few visitor comments below so that you can get a flavour of what we offer to visitors and pick up some ideas of places you might want to visit.

You can also read what has been written about us on Trip Advisor by jumping to our own page listing the different visitor comments together with a screen shot of each comment. You can also browse the reviews we have on Owners Direct in the same way.

If you prefer to see and hear what people think of their holiday with us we have started our own YouTube channel. Below you can see a selection of video reviews to give you a flavour of what a holiday at Cyprus Country Holidays is like.

If you want to book your own holiday, the Bookings Page will give you all the information you need to make sure you get your own spot in our corner of paradise.

•We love this place. We were unable to come last year and we missed it! We have had a very relaxing week just lazing by the pool; just what the doctor ordered. (Mick and Ellen May 2014)

•Pleasantly surprised at the standard of apartment. Everything we could have needed was here. Very clean and tidy too. The peace and quiet was a lovely way to relax. Having the pool and quality sun beds has made the outside area a restful place to be. (Heidi and Stephen June 2014)

•The best kept secret in Cyprus! We have loved our stay and as Arnie says “we will be back.” Shane and Neal – You have been fantastic hosts (even if you have got us hooked on the Nip and Tuck DVDs). The apartment and setting are brilliant. Everything one would need for a perfect holiday. (Penny and Laurence April 2013)

•We have very much enjoyed our first holiday her with Neal and Shane. The setting here is extremely peaceful and very relaxing, just what we were looking for. The accommodation is excellent and we have been fortunate to have enjoyed the Terrace and Garden Apartments; they are very comfortable and well appointed. (Roy and Beryl June 2012)

•Didn’t do as much sightseeing as last year but did go to Agia Napa to check that we didn’t like it better than Vavla (we didn’t!!). A day in the Troodos Mountains is a perfect and cool way to see the real Cyprus, especially in August. The Caledonian Falls are worth a visit, not in full torrent now but still quite wet. Wear your trainers, the rocks can be wet and slippery. (Roger and Andrea August 2011)

We don’t really want to tell anyone about this place as we want to keep it for ourselves.
Have stayed 3 times over the last four years and feel very deprived when we haven’t been able to go back.
So tranquil, relaxed and everything you need to unwind and recharge.
To get up an wander around the olive and fruit trees and to be able to collect fresh eggs from the chickens, salad and vegetables from the garden is wonderful.
Neal and Shane are the perfect hosts and we enjoy returning ‘home’ each day.

We always enjoy your company when you visit… and are glad you feel you are returning ‘home’ when you come out. We like it when people come and take advantage of the different crops available. My favourite time is around June – apricot time. Nothing nicer than picking a ripe apricot straight from the tree!

We gad a great holiday with our 2 year old. Apartments are well looked after and clean. Pool is great and lots to do within a short distance. Hosts are very welcoming (including the cats!).

Glad you all had a good time – we loved having you here. We are very lucky in that most parts of the island are pretty easy to get to from us. This means it is easy to go off and explore. Thanks once again for coming over… look forward to seeing you once more if you should ever visit Cyprus again.

After our 9th visit to your delightful get away, we were suitably rested and refreshed. Swims in the pool, evenings sitting under the gazebo under the stars, eating eggs freshly laid by the chickens, lovely drives through the beautiful Troodos area have all combined yet again to create the perfect holiday. Cyprus looked lovelier than ever this year. There are so many exotic flowers and shrubs. The terraces around our apartment were a picture!
    We’ll be back!

Thanks for leaving a comment about your visit… we love sitting out on a starry night enjoying the cooler evening air too. Looking forward to seeing you out here again the next time you feel like a break away in the sunshine.

  4. Louise Wiggins says:

We had a wonderful, restful week staying in the Garden Apartment. Neal and Shane are excellent hosts, who made us so welcome. There was a much-appreciated welcome pack of the basics (bread, cheese, milk, freshly laid eggs, wine etc) waiting for us on arrival. The apartment is clean, modern and really well-equipped and in a beautiful, peaceful location. We loved collecting freshly-laid eggs for our breakfast. The pool area is large, with a lovely shaded BBQ area where we enjoyed long, lazy lunches. We dined out most evenings at some very good local restaurants, all within a short drive of the villa.

Very glad you all had a good time when you stayed with us. Lots of people comment on how peaceful it is here – as I sit out on the terrace typing this reply all I can hear is the chirruping of the crickets. Fortunately nowhere is very far in Cyprus and as we are centrally located you can get to all the main spots within an hour or so. I know you enjoyed Tasties cafe, well worth the drive as they provide a fantastic setting as well as great food.

  5. Before booking my first Cyprus holiday I spent a long time on websites choosing ‘the best place’ to stay. Each review for this place was overwhelmingly positive.
Having just returned from a week in The Garden Apartment ….. I can confirm that the glowing reviews on this site are true!
The apartments and terraces have been very well designed for relaxing Cypriot holidays.
    I want to go back!

Thanks for your complimentary comments about your break away with us… it doesn’t get much better than when someone says they had such a good time that they want to come back! We have been very lucky to have had so many visitors that have enjoyed what we offer and then, as you mentioned, write about their experience so positively. If you do ever get out to Cyprus again, we would love to see you here once more.

This was our fourth stay here in five years, that should speak volumes and needless to say we were not disappointed. The setting is truly wonderful, the accommodation first class, five star and the hosts, well what can we say, there are both absolutely great. Over the years they have become wonderful hosts to true friends. You will want for nothing. Peace and tranquillity, place to go and see or a relaxing holiday. It’s your choice. During our previous visits we have done most of the popular places and tourist sites in Cyprus, Pafos. Lefkara, Kourion, Kolissi and Polis. This year we walked into North Nicosia and went shopping in the Turkish held area. We walked up the Caledonian Falls in the Troodos Mountains followed by a meal with our hosts, a great day out and had a Sunday lunch in a small mountain village surrounded by locals, what a privilege. We went to Tasties in Lefkara for a meal with Shane, Neal and fellow guests Lyn and Chris, the food was absolutely amazing.
If you are looking for a quality holiday where you choose what to do, how much to do, this is the place you must go to. Collect fresh eggs each day, pick lemons, oranges or figs depending on the time of year. Listen to the nuns sing at the monastery less than ½ mile away and sit outside at night and be amazed by the stars.
Neal & Shane (and the cats) thank you for yet another great holiday. If Mr Branson and Virgin fly to Cyprus you would be his top location. We will be back, very soon, many thanks to you both and best wishes for a prosperous future.

Thanks for your comments Barry; they were very generous. We are glad you had yet another successful holiday with us. As you say, you can choose what you want to do when you stay with us – lounge by the pool relaxing or go out and about exploring. We are centrally placed to get to almost anywhere on the island within an hour or so. Peace and tranquility are one of the most frequent comments visitors make about the place and perhaps we are guilty of taking it for granted. If Mr Branson wants to come and visit he is most welcome as long as he is up to the same standard of visitor as you and Jeanette are – it is a pleasure to host you each time you visit. Look forward to seeing you the next time you decide to visit Cyprus!

  7. Russell says:

We certainly hit the jackpot when we discovered this little gem of a retreat. Quiet, relaxing and just what we needed to ensure we returned to the UK relaxed and refreshed.

As for our hosts… well they really go the extra mile to ensure our stay was all it should be… even provided some parts to fix our car… Shane you are a star!

Loved the fresh eggs and welcome we got each morning from the cats… DIVA we love you!

    • Thanks for taking the time to write about your recent visit with us. Peace and quiet, being able to relax and recharge are all recurring comments from past visitors so we are glad you were able to take advantage of some Vavla tranquility.

You will be pleased to know the hens are still doing their duty – we have just had scrambled eggs for lunch – as nothing beats a really fresh egg. Although you weren’t able to take advantage of the veg patch, this season’s crop of tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers etc is really starting to get going. Again nothing quite beats fresh produce that has been picked just 10 minutes ago.

If you do head over this way again we would love to see you once more.

  8. Dave and Carol Parkes says:

We have just had two weeks in walk through the orchard and collect lemons ,oranges, and have fresh eggs for breakfast heaven.we stopped in the garden apt.which was perfect. The location is ideal and the pool is a wonderful asset for those hot days.Shane and Neal are great host and are always there to help. This is the place for a great holiday

    • Thanks for taking the time to drop by and glad you had a good time. Even I have succumbed to the pool this week as the temperature keeps climbing! Would love to see you both out here again if you head this way in the future.

  9. David and Elaine Appleton says:

Dave and Carol have said it all and Elaine and I are glad their experience was as we expected and more. We have known Neal and Shane for many years now and their friendship knows no bounds. Our holidays in the past will stay with us for many years to come. This is an idyllic setting.

  10. Barry & Jeanette says:

We have just spent our fifth stay with Shane and Neal in the last six years and again we were not disappointed. Thank you both for yet another wonderful time. You are not only the perfect hosts but have become good friends. You are always available to advise us where to visit and where to eat. Booking could not have been easier visiting your website which is always kept up to date. The highlight this year was seeing the owl sat on the roof of the accommodation and seeing the shooting stars.
Thank you again for a wonderful break and the chance to share your home. We look seeing you again soon.

    • Thanks for coming once again and taking the time to write a comment! It is always good to welcome you back as you are such easy going, affable company.

We still get excited when we see a shooting star. With such clear night skies you often see them if you look for long enough or just time it right. In fact the night sky in general is an amazing sight. Being city boys, it wasn’t until coming here that we realised just how many stars there are up in the sky. Seeing the space station is still a bit of a thrill even though you can see it overhead so often.

Thanks once again for your kind words and look forward to seeing you next time!

  11. Sue Knights says:

Coming back to cold dreary England was rather a shock after our fabulous week in Cyprus.
A great peaceful location within easy driving distance of interesting places, we loved the Troodos mountains with the painted churches and exploring Nicosia and Pafos.
Neal and Shane were so helpful and friendly and made our stay extra special, we loved the fresh eggs, vegetables and Shane’s comprehensive DVD collection!
We will definitely return, and will recommend to our family and friends.
    Thanks again!

    • Thanks for your message… looking at the UK forecast we guessed you were in for a bit of a shock on your return! Needless to say we have had to endure yet another day of warm golden sunshine :-).
Thanks very much for coming to stay and glad you both had a good time – you certainly made the most of your time here which is always good to see. Pleased that you could make use of Shane’s DVD collection – if you do make a return visit they will be numbered to make finding them easier (my winter job)!!!
Would love to see you both here again if you should ever want to come for another visit to Cyprus.

  12. Beverley Nash says:

Peace and quiet – away from the tourists !!!!

Lovely apartment, lovely hosts, so much fun! Spring is definitely the time to visit to see all the wildflowers and avoid the most intense heat. Still too hot for us though!

Shane and Neal are absolutely lovely people and we had so much fun with them that it felt like we were old friends not paying guests. Highlights had to include Diva the talkative cat with the foot obsession and being surrounded by insistent chickens one day when we returned from being out.

Their place near Vavla is superbly located for Larnaca Airport, easy access, but but in a remote and very quiet spot. The most noise we had during our stay was from the local monastery at 7am one morning while having breakfast on the patio. And it has a pool, which we never used mainly because we were busy getting ‘gold stars’ for being the guests who crammed the most into their holiday!

    Niggles – a couple:

    – no Telly channels, but made up for with a DVD selection. (But then what’s Cyprus telly like and can you get good access to English programmes anyway?)
    – WIFI available but we had to sit on the outside steps to get it – being keen hikers we needed access to weather forecasting each evening to plan where to walk the next day.
    – downside of being somewhere like Vavla is eating out locally is a bit limited (but thanks to Alpha Mega at junction 13 we had no problems getting supplies)

    A few extra tips

Limassol – traffic gridlocked, parking a major headache, simply hell on earth
Troodos Square – a mini Blackpool complete with tacky, underwhelming cafes and kiosks. Surely they could have done better!
Ayia Napa – Cyprus’ equivalent of Blackpool without the tower

Paphos archaelogical sites – the main one right next to Paphos harbour was excellent

A drive up from Vavla past Ora, to Odou then Farmakas and Apliki via some superb mountain scenery and hairpin bends which are like Hardknott Pass (Lake District) on steroids. Possibly the best road ever travelled! (and back around to the cottage by whatever wriggly route takes your fancy)

For keen hikers here are some tips – be prepared to get lost. Cypriot mapping is pretty awful even when it exists and the walking guide books are often vague and inaccurate when it comes to route finding. Some points of orientation don’t exist like the mythical goat farm on the Chapotami gorge walk.

    Hiking highlights:

Adonis, Smigies and Aphrodite trails in one day on the Akamas peninsula. We put the 3 routes from the Rother walking guide into one great circular trek (just missing out the middle bit where the Adonis and Aphrodite trails use the same route up/down from the coast).

Stavrovouni monastery – a short sharp up and back walking trail with superb views from the top

Kionia trail in the Machairas Forest. We parked on the dirt road from Lythrodontas but if you carry on you can get to the new picnic site and start from there. Walked from there up to Kionia summit using the walking trail then returned using the mountain bike route.

Chapotami Gorge walk but be careful of route finding on the return leg – the goat farm no longer exists so you’re looking for a wide blue chipping ‘dirt road’ opposite a large vineyard!

Akavas Gorge walk and circuit if you like a challenge – use the Rother walking guide again. Halfway up you will be scrambling over huge boulders going ‘where the hell’s the path?’ Just keep to the valley bottom and keep going. At the top when out of the gorge for the short route turn right at the goat pens and head up the slope until you hit a well defined track which takes you back to the car park.

Cape Aspro – we put the Rother walking guide and Shane and Neal’s green Cyprus walks books together for a superb circular – from Pissouri Beach all the way over the headland down to the ridge to the shingle beach, then back up the other side into Pissouri for a beer, then back to the beach on the beach road (6 hours)

Visit Kato Archimandrita ( if in the Kouklia area towards Paphos) – a ruined village with one occupied house in a beautiful valley… very pretty

All in all, a very successful holiday and we went home leaving Shane and Neal to enjoy left over birthday cake.

    • Thanks for your comments and hints and tips for walkers. As you mentioned, we are in a great position if you want to go off and explore the island. It was good to see you take full advantage of all the sights Cyprus has to offer. Hopefully, if you have a return visit, you will get better WiFi as we are just waiting for a phone engineer to put in a new cable to extend the signal. This should be happening any day soon, but as they say, ‘this is Cyprus!’ Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of Vavla – we consider ourselves very lucky to live here.
